We know insurance prices can be a bit confusing, that’s why we want to keep things as simple as possible with this explanatory page.

To help you understand how we price your policy, we’ve explained some key factors that affect insurance prices.

Your insurance price explained

	<li>Its safety ratings.</li>
	<li>The vehicle&rsquo;s security.</li>
	<li>Any modifications it might have had.</li>

Even if you&#39;re the best driver in the world, there&#39;s always the risk of someone crashing into you or stealing your vehicle. So we always have to take into account the crime and accident rates in your area.

&nbsp;

What happens in your local area can also have an impact on your renewal price.&nbsp; 
This is because some things may have changed in your vicinity, such as:

	<li>The number of accidents.</li>
	<li>The level of traffic on the roads.</li>
	<li>The amount of personal injury claims.</li>
	<li>The number of thefts in your area.</li>
	<li>The amount of vandalism reported.</li>
</ul>

So if there&rsquo;s a higher than average number of claims near you, then prices will be higher near you too.

Your price also will change based on the level of cover you select, including the excess (the first part of the claim) which you choose to contribute to.

&nbsp;

Your cover level will change the amount the insurer has to pay out in the event of a claim, which could either reduce or increase the price you pay. For example, if your policy doesn&rsquo;t include windscreen cover, then your price will be reduced because your insurer won&rsquo;t have to pay towards replacing your windscreen.&nbsp;

However, you should always make sure the cover you choose is at the right level for you.

Firstly, every policy is taxed. The government charges you a 12% tax on your insurance premium. Like all insurers, we also pay into different industry funds and levies (such as the Financial Services Compensation Scheme). These are important as they are designed to protect all customers.&nbsp;

Then there&rsquo;s the increase in the amount of insurance fraud, which is a cost every policyholder has to help cover.

Insurance prices are based on lots of different factors. These help us to work out a price that covers the likelihood of you making a claim against the policy.&nbsp;
