We know insurance prices can be a bit confusing, particularly when it comes to your Home insurance renewal. That’s why we want to keep things as simple as possible.

We know that in the past year, there have been significant price increases. So to explain why this has happened, we've created this guide to help you understand everything you need to know about our prices.

Your home renewal price explained

Why have insurance prices gone up so much?

We&#39;re aware that insurance prices have risen significantly for some of our customers- and we&#39;re sorry if this has impacted you.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

All insurance companies are facing rising claims costs. and this is causing home insurance prices to go up across the country.&nbsp;

If your price has gone up more than the average, it could be for a variety of reasons: 
 
Claims: Your price might have gone up if you have made a claim. 
 
Your personal circumstances: Your price might have gone up if your personal circumstances have changed &ndash; for example, how you use your home, the number of people in your household or a change in your job.&nbsp; 
 
Any of these things can impact how insurance companies view your risk. 
 
A change in risk with your property or location: Your price might have gone up if the risk of a claim associated with your property or the area you live in has changed (even if nothing has changed for you personally).&nbsp; 
 
For example, your type of property might have had more claims or might have become more expensive to repair. Or we might have seen increased levels of claims in the area you live in.

 
Extremely cold weather: In some particular types of home, there&rsquo;s been a dramatic rise in claims relating to burst pipes during extremely cold weather. So for these property types, prices are reflecting this new risk. 
 
Your price might have been wrong: For a smaller number of customers, we may have got your price wrong last year. This could happen if we incorrectly estimated the chance of a claim for a particular vehicle type or area of the country.&nbsp; 
 
We constantly review our prices to make sure they&rsquo;re correct. So sometimes this update or correction can impact your price, through no fault of your own.

When we work out your renewal price, we&#39;re having to pass on the rising costs we&#39;re seeing. This means prices are going up for almost all customers. This may be stll the case- even if you haven&#39;t had a claim in the last year.

&nbsp;

We hope that if claims cost reduce in the future, we can start to reduce our prices again.&nbsp;

We always try and make sure your renewal is competitive 

For every quote we give, we&#39;ve already searched a panal of insurers and found the lowest available price. And just so you know, we don&#39;t charge any adminstration or arrangement fees for setting up your home insurance policy.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Even if prices are going up, we&#39;re commited to offering competitive renewal prices. That&#39;s why, based on the same details, the price of your renewal quote from us will never be more than a quote we offer to a new customer.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

In fact, a lot of existing customers get a better price than those we offer to new customers.&nbsp;

There are a number of reasons. Firstly, weather-related claims are contributing significantly to the overall cost of claims. As a resuly of some of the more severe winters, more storms and hotter summers, there&#39;s an increase in the number of claims.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Also, the average cost of a claim is rising rapidly because of an extraordinary combination of factors. These include:

<ul>
	<li>Increases in the cost, and low availabilty of building materials, such as timer, glass and brick, increasing the cost of repairs.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>The availabilty of labour, which can cause reppairs to take longer.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Increases in the labout costs for repairers.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>The cost of manufacturing increasing due to increased energy costs.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
