If you need a new car because your previous one was written off  

If your vehicle&#39;s considered a write-off (or &#39;total loss&#39;), we&#39;ll offer you the market value. 
 
The market value of your vehicle is the price we think your vehicle would have sold for right before an incident happened.

 
To work out the market value of your specific vehicle, we look at your vehicle&rsquo;s make, model, specification, age and mileage as well as other information.

 
In most cases, we base the market value on multiple industry-recognised guides, adjusting where appropriate to reflect the price the vehicles actually sold for. These guides are used across the motor industry and provide prices for the majority of vehicles.

 >0333 321 9801</a>. If you don&rsquo;t know your new car details yet, then you&rsquo;ll need to call us before the 7 days is up to let us know them. If you don&rsquo;t share them before the 7 days is up, we&rsquo;ll go ahead and cancel your policy at this point.&nbsp;

If you&rsquo;ve already sold your car and won&rsquo;t be replacing it in the next seven days, then unfortunately you will have to cancel your policy.&nbsp;

If you get a new car (or van) within 30 days of cancelling with us, and then buy a new policy from us directly at hastingsdirect.com or over the phone, then we will refund your cancellation fee. &nbsp;

If you’re keeping your existing car and buying a new car as well 

If you&#39;re keeping your old car, then simply add your new car to your current policy. You&#39;ll get a discount for every additional car you add, as well as the convenience of just one payment and renewal date. Get a Multi Car quote today and see how much you could save.&nbsp;

If you don’t need permanent insurance for one of your cars 

If you&rsquo;re got more than one car at home, but don&rsquo;t need permanent insurance because you&rsquo;ll be selling or scrapping one of your vehicles, you can add the new vehicle temporarily (for up to 28 days). We can only offer temporary insurance for cars that aren&rsquo;t already insured elsewhere. You also can&rsquo;t amend or cancel the temporary cover after you&rsquo;ve bought it. Just so you know, we can only add temporary cover up to three times during the policy year.&nbsp;

If you’re getting a new car in the future

When you update your vehicle details, the amount of your excess might change too &ndash; so please check this to make sure you&#39;re happy with it. You&rsquo;ll also need to tell us if any of your other details have changed. If you don&rsquo;t do this, then you may not be covered if you make a claim in the future. &nbsp;

You’re replacing your existing car and there’s a short gap before your new car

If you&rsquo;ve sold your current car &ndash; and there&rsquo;s a gap of up to seven days before you get a new one &ndash; then we can keep your policy live for you during the time when you&rsquo;re without a car.&nbsp;

Just to be clear &ndash; you&rsquo;ll continue to be charged for your policy and you&rsquo;ll still need to make any payments during this time. If you choose to keep your policy live, it means:&nbsp;
