Substitute vehicle cover

Our standard motor policy includes a guaranteed courtesy car whilst your car is being repaired after an accident, as long as you use our approved repairers.

However, if you're involved in accident and your car is a deemed a total loss, or 'write-off' that cannot be repaired, you don't get a courtesy car. But you can add Substitute Vehicle cover to your policy for an extra cost.

This gives you a 'like-for-like' replacement vehicle for up to 28 days, so your day-to-day life won't be inconvenienced by not having a car.

You're covered for:

  • A substitute car for up to 28 days if your car's written off or stolen and not recovered.
  • Free delivery and collection of the car — we'll come to any convenient place within England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
  • A similar engine size and same number of seats as your own car, up to 2000cc and up to 7 seats.
  • Two claims (up to 28 days) per policy term.
  • A 24 hour, seven days a week helpline service.

What you're not covered for:

  • Any accident that's not your fault.
  • Claims arising from a deliberate, criminal act or an omission other than vehicle theft.
  • Hire costs before the insurer has confirmed they'll deal with your claim in writing.

Cover is restricted to the UK only and to qualify you must have car cover with Hastings Direct. Your car must also be either a private car or small commercial car with a maximum gross weight of 3.5 tonnes.

The insurer is ANV. You're required to notify your insurer of the incident. Full terms and conditions can be found in our optional additional products booklet.
