£2,000 raised as staff "splash" managers during Carnival Week Celebrations
Staff from Bexhill based insurance broker Hastings Direct raised £2,000 for charity this week (Wednesday July 24th) at the company's summer fete held during office hours to celebrate the Bexhill Carnival.
Over £600 was raised by staff voting for the top ten managers in the business to get "sponged in the stocks". When all the voting was done the company's CEO Gary Hoffman and managing directors Tobias van der Meer and Michael Lee, led a host of other managers who once safely locked in the stocks were then "splashed" with buckets of ice cold water.
The fete — which included a traditional coconut shy, space hopper races, cake and plant stall, tombola and raffles — raised £2,000 for local charities — Hastings based Friary Gardeners — Hastings Direct's charity partner — received £1500 and £500 will be donated to the official charities of the Bexhill Carnival — the Association of Carers, Bexhill Museum and the Street Pastors.
Oli Luck Baker, chair, charity committee, Hastings Direct: "A huge thanks to Friary Gardeners for donating all the plants but otherwise staff and departments donated everything for sale at the fete and then came right out and bought it all back! We have never had so much fun raising money for charity — the weather was kind to us and the sponge the manager will be a regular fundraising event from now on!"
