Staff from Hastings Direct set a company record purchasing 500 doughnuts in less than 45 minutes to raise £200 for a children's cancer charity, NCCA UK. (Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance UK).
When asked by fellow colleague Chris Hawkes for help to support the fight against neuroblastoma — a very aggressive childhood cancer — staff at the Bexhill based insurance broker loosened their belts, opened their wallets and rose to the challenge!
Chris — who is himself a father to two small children — was inspired to help in the fight against neuroblastoma when he heard a radio interview with a dad talking about the loss of his young son to this cancer.
Oli Luck Baker, chair, charity committee, Hastings Direct: "Neuroblastoma is a very aggressive childhood cancer and two children each week in the UK are diagnosed with this life limiting cancer. The NCCA helps pay for essential treatment which is not funded by the NHS and often only available abroad. We are planning a few more events to raise some more funds for this vital charity."
Chris has also taken on some personal challenges to fundraise for the NCCA running in a series of ten races over the autumn with friends to raise £2,000 — half of the money has already been pledged. If you would like to support this charity you can donate via www.justgiving.com/Born-Ready-Runners.
