Insurance broker Hastings Direct, one of the three largest employers in East Sussex, has just announced a pledge to give 1,000 days support for charity — one day for each member of staff.
Hastings Direct has always been active in its local community and a champion of charity work. Each year the company's staff supports a local charity of the year. In the past this has raised £30,000 for SASBAH (Sussex Association of Spina Bifida and Hyrdoencephalus) and £17,000 for St Mary's School.
The company has two insurance products — www.insurepink.co.uk and www.insureblue.co.uk which raise tens of thousands of pounds for male and female cancer charities each year, whilst it donates £2 from every motorbike policy it sells to the Think Bike safety campaign. Its staff also annually fundraises for Comic Relief, Children in Need and the Poppy Appeal.
Edward Fitzmaurice, CEO, Hastings Direct: "As a company which prides itself on doing nearly everything ourselves in-house, we are a highly skilled and motivated community that has a lot to offer charities which need our support. Our staff has proved all too willing to give back to their local communities and as a leading employer, we would like to support them even further by offering each of them a paid work day to donate to charity."
Hastings Direct has just announced its charity of the year for 2011/2012 is Raystede Welfare Centre for Animals. To kick start the 1000 day pledge, Edward Fitzmaurice together with senior management from Hastings Direct will break ground and labour at Raystede as part of the first key project the company will be undertaking for the charity to build an outdoor classroom and educational facility.
