22nd August 2013
Children and families are welcome to visit the inaugural Charity Family Fun Day which will run from noon to 5pm on Sunday September 1st at the Senlac Inn, Station Approach Battle — just after the Battle 10k race in the morning.
The fun day will raise funds for the children's cancer charity, NCCA UK. (Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance UK). Neuroblastoma is a very aggressive childhood cancer and two children each week in the UK are diagnosed with this life limiting cancer. The NCCA helps pay for essential treatment which is not funded by the NHS and often only available abroad.
The fun day will feature a BBQ, bouncy caste and raffle and includes lots of events for children of all ages from balloon animals, face painting and a Kids Olympics which will feature lots of races including egg and spoon sack and wheelbarrow — amongst many others.
Lots of local businesses including Hastings Direct have donated prizes for the raffle including:
The day has been organised by local residents all touched by the plight of families who children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma — a life limiting cancer who challenged themselves to run a series of races to help fundraise and call themselves the Born Ready Runners.
Battle resident, Chris Hawkes — a member of Born Ready Runners — explains: "We hope everyone will come along, have fun and raise much needed funds to help families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer. All of the Born Ready Runners are parents and the work that the NCCA does, really inspires us when we are training to keep going."
The Born Ready Runners are running a series of local races to raise money for the NCCA culminating in the Bexhill Poppy Half Marathon in November. If you would like to support them you can donate via their Just Giving Link: www.justgiving.com/Born-Ready-Runners or via text — just text the word NEUR52 followed by the amount eg £1, £5 etc to 70070.
