Charities & residents benefit from local support for carnival

2nd June 2014

Hastings Direct — the biggest employer in Bexhill — is the lead sponsor of this year's Bexhill Carnival which is being held from 19th–26th July.

The Bexhill Carnival is also being supported by many local businesses and organisations and this year's co-sponsors are Windmill Drive Post Office, Sussex Coast College, Bexhill College, Identity Printing & Signage, Cooden Beach Hotel, Family Mosaic, Rother District Council, Commando Fitness, Italian Way, Ark Residential, Freedom Leisure, Bodyshock Fitness, Battle Mower Centre, Bexhill Florist, Bexhill Alliance and Bustle & Bows.

Plans for the Carnival are progressing well and the Bexhill Carnival Committee would like to thank all of this year's co-sponsors, as their support has meant they will be able to stage more free community events than ever before for local residents.

Nim Whitmarsh, chairman, Bexhill Carnival Committee: "All our co-sponsors have made a real difference and I know that the Bexhill community will support them just as generously as they have supported us.

"We are still looking for a few more procession category sponsors and would appeal to local businesses to contact eventsteam@bexhillcarnival.co.uk if you could help the carnival in this way."

The Bexhill Carnival will be supporting four charities this year.

One of these charities is the Bexhill Autism Society and the Bexhill and Hastings branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS) has now been running for five and a half years.

The Society's main aim is to offer support to parents who have a child on the autistic spectrum with support groups in both Bexhill and Hastings. The groups offer information, support and companionship as well as regularly invite professionals to come along and talk to parents.

Children with autism struggle to access mainstream leisure activities due to their anxiety, which can sometimes result in very challenging behaviours. This means that living with autism can be very isolating for families as they are unable to go out and use leisure facilities in the way that other families do. The Society organises regular family activities during the school holidays, exclusively hiring local venues to ensure families can enjoy a normal day out together.
