Bexhill giants get a helping hand from Hastings Direct

19th September 2013

Local basketball team — the Bexhill Giants — has just received A Helping Hand from local insurance broker Hastings Direct to help host a visit of the USA Select Basketball, a basketball organisation which is touring Europe with the aim of promoting basketball and offering free local coaching clinics to young people.

Hastings Direct's A Helping Hand makes financial, professional and physical support available to the local community. Each month Hastings is able to offer either professional support from its 1,500+ staff, or physical support with team building days. In addition, Hastings has made a small monthly grant available to support local funding.

The Bexhill Giants have been playing together since 2001 and are an amateur team with an average age of 22. Hastings Direct donated £100 to the Bexhill Giants to help them promote their exhibition match against USA Select — which was held after the coaching clinic on 20th September at Summerfields Leisure Centre.

Jay Wootten, community liaison, Hastings Direct: "Whilst basketball is not as well established here as it in the USA, we are happy to be able to support a local team that is encouraging young people to be more interested and active in a great team game sport."
